What is a first visit like at Deuces Wild?
Relaxed and friendly. You walk in, a host meets you at the door, you grab some chips, and you sit down to play — usually within a few minutes of arriving.
We're a small, locally owned room — four tables, forty seats — not a 200-seat casino floor. That means the host actually has time to walk you through everything, the regulars know each other by name, and there's no velvet rope, no dress code, and no one looking down their nose at you. Mike & Ike built this place to be the friendly room they always wanted to play in. If it's your first time, just tell the host at the door — they'll take care of the rest.
The Walkthrough
Exactly What Happens When You Walk In
Five simple steps from the parking lot to your first hand.

1 · Park
Pull into the free on-site lot at 120 FM 2821 Rd E. Park anywhere and walk up to the front door. No valet, no garage, no fuss.

2 · The Door
A host greets you, checks your photo ID (you must be 18 or older), and welcomes you in. Tell them it's your first time — they'll show you around.

3 · The Buy-In
Decide on a cash game or the tournament. Tournament buy-in is $60 for 18,000 chips. For a cash game, you exchange cash for chips at the table you join.

4 · Getting a Seat
The host seats you at an open chair. If your game is full, you go on a short list and we call you the second a seat opens — usually just a few minutes.

5 · The Play
A professional dealer runs the game and manages the pot, the blinds, and the action. You just play your hands. Ask the dealer anything — that's what they're there for.

That's It
Most first-timers are seated and playing within five minutes of walking in. No paperwork, no membership card, no awkward intro speech.
See This Week's ScheduleWill I be the worst player at the table?
Probably not — and even if you are, no one here will make you feel bad about it.
Every single regular in this room was a first-timer once. The dealer handles all the mechanics — shuffling, dealing, managing the pot, posting blinds — so you never have to worry about doing something "wrong." If you forget whose turn it is or aren't sure what a bet means, just ask. People here are far more interested in a friendly game than in needling a new player. The smaller field is actually a gift when you're learning: fewer tables, calmer pace, and faces you'll recognize by your second visit.
What should I wear?
Whatever's comfortable. There is no dress code. Jeans, a t-shirt, a ball cap — totally normal. This is a poker room, not a country club. Come as you are.
What should I bring?
Three things:
· A valid photo ID (18+)
· Cash for your buy-in
· Optional: a friend, if it makes you more comfortable
How much should I bring?
For the tournament, the buy-in is $60 (plus optional rebuys/add-ons — see the tournament page).
For a cash game, a comfortable low-end starting bankroll is around $100. See the cash games page for stakes and buy-in ranges.
Is this really legal?
Yes. Deuces Wild operates as a private club under the Texas Penal Code §47.02 private-place exemption — a real card room with professional dealers, a secure cash cage, and cameras throughout.
That's the short version, and it's the honest one. We don't operate in a gray area or a back room. If you've ever wondered whether a private poker club like this is above board, we wrote a full plain-English explanation of how it works and why it's legal.
